Mismatched binding and threads do a table runner make

It's all here and in my dining room. My quilt top, my binding fabric, my backing fabric, my quilting foot, and my batting. It just needs a bit of assembly. I don't know when that will happen but I'm allowed to quilt it because I finished that diaper bag--boo-ya! As soon as I get the pics together I'll show you. In the meantime, I have one last free-motion practice piece to show you. I had a length of fabric that I cut in half and it was perfect for a table-runner sized piece. It's not the greatest fabric (I made chair cushions for our porch out of it originally) so I didn't mind "wasting" it for practice. But it actually turned out half-decent so I stuck some binding on there and called it a day.

I figure it was meant to be because it ended up being the perfect size for a piece of furniture we have in the kitchen. And yeah...the binding is two colors. No sense wasting the scraps, right?

This join ended up ok but the other one could be better...I should probably look at the tutorial instead of trying to do it from memory. But when you're being called to play Uno and there's a Slenderita waiting for you...you don't dilly-dally.

The neatorific thing about this technique is that it hides issues well. When quilting straight lines if you go off it shows. With this, unless you really hunt for oddities they're not terribly evident. Like how I started in the middle and slowly meandered towards the bottom right without noticing...

Because I didn't start this intending for it to be anything but practice the back is a little funny.

That wrinkle is there only because I didn't press the fabric. And that is indeed royal blue thread. Because I ran out of orange. The orange actually looked pretty cute, but I was trying to use up leftover bobbins for which I no longer have corresponding spools.

The smaller the stitches the worse the tension--but I don't like the longer stitches. So I'm going to use the same thread front and back and that should hopefully mask any problems.

Overall my motion got a little more free and the design is much more meandering than it was originally.

Thus ends the most boring post ever. Apparently I'm one of those people who develops allergies as an adult, and I'm having some clogged ears-itchy-throat-runny nose issues. But hey--no sinus pressure (I believe in silver linings :)  But I still feel ick so I'm going to go make tea and curl up with a book.

Happy trails!
