A walking foot is a must even if...I agree with you. A walking foot is a must even if you don't sew quilts. I use it when I sew my bags as well. My Janome walking foot thunders which is the only reason I don't like it because it means I can't use it at night or when someone else is watching TV or doing homework. I'm still searching for the pointy wooden thing in Singapore. It's amazing I can't find it anywhere here. And for crochet hooks, I only like the stainless steel ones.
