I'm having a dilemma of the best kind. A few weeks ago I bought myself two charm packs of Bliss because the yardage in the prints I like best is difficult to find, and I can't find any jelly rolls or layer cakes (well, at least a few weeks ago I couldn't). I'm super excited to hack into this, but I must wait as I have a gaggle of custom orders to get moving on. But I need a little time anyway because I can't decide on a pattern. That's where you come in, lovelies. I've found two patterns/tutorials I like, but I can't decide which the Bliss would look best in.
Cluck Cluck Sew made this one using Bliss:
I would make this without the large flower because I don't think I could make a flower look that good. I like how it's so random, and the charm squares are cut into smaller rectangles to maximize print spread (I just made that term up, by the way).
And Melissa Corry at Happy Quilting designed this for the Moda Bake Shop:
This one will make the quilt a little larger because of the strips, and it might keep the prints from running together so much. It's also more square than rectangular as the first one is.
I need you to give a girl some help and let me know which one you think would look best and will showcase this delicious fabric best. Would you mind leaving a comment on if you think I should go with the first or the second option? It's not going to be a large quilt, but I don't want it to be. In my head it's backed in aqua and bound in red and white polka dots (which might go best with the bottom one?). But if you have other suggestions I'm wide open to them. Thanks folks! Have a happy Frideeeeee!!!

This was a tough question!! I had to really ponder over it, but finally I think that if you aren't going to make the flower, you should make the bottom quilt. but that's just mho - have fun! ~Lori
ReplyDeleteHi Bethany. I am SO glad I picked up that Bliss jelly roll when I did. I love that line. And now I can't find any more. You saw my quilt top I did with the Bliss, didn't you? I love it!! Next weekend, I have a quilt over with my best friend, and we are going to be making more of them. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
ReplyDeleteWhat charming fabric! I have to say I like the first pattern best. It just seems to set off the fabric and catch your eye better than the other one. But whichever one you choose, I know it will be lovely!
ReplyDeleteI like the first option best!
ReplyDeleteThey are all made with rectangles...so you lose more fabric to seams. Bloom made a lovely one with charm squares too..maybe you could check out that one as well before you make up your mind.
ReplyDeleteI like the first one more because it feels more happy and comfy. The binding may not stand out but from the back it will. The second quilt feels too studied in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the first one. x
ReplyDeleteI vote the first one! So cute
ReplyDeleteI like the second one - I think it showcases the fabric a little more.
ReplyDeleteI love them all!:))

Hi there! I'm stopping by from The Girl Creative blog hop! I like both the quilts. I can see how it's hard to decide.
ReplyDeleteI hope you stop by sometime!

Oh I know nothing about quilting (being in a tropical country, we don't really use quilts) but I love the second :)BUT probably because it was photographed with leaves. Haha! I'm no help, sorry!
ReplyDeleteHmmm both of these ideas are cool, but I would pick the second one just so that you'll know how it looks with Bliss prints! I bet it will be very pretty :)
ReplyDeleteThis is sooo cute! How clever and fun design.
