Sir Miles Sedgewick

I wasn't going to post about this. It seems show-offy (which I don't care for) but at the same time I'm still so excited that I want to share it with you. So I'm going to. Here goes. I bought a new car. Not just any car, but my dream car. So, folks--this is Sir Miles Sedgewick, and Miles--this is the gang. Now everybody shake hands and mingle.

(phone pic--hence the blur)

Yeah...my dream car is a MINI Cooper. Is that weird? Should it be a Mustang or a Lamborghini or something I can't pronounce? I don't know. I just know that ever since I saw my first episode of Mr. Bean (OK, my only, and by accident) I've wanted one. They were never widely available here in my area until fairly recently. And then a few months ago a co-worker took me for a spin and gave me all the dirty dets and I was officially obsessed. I took a few test drives, and convinced myself not to buy it. I didn't need a new car at all. As a matter of fact, I adored my previous car (a Subaru Forester). This was such a hard decision to make. I know--most people don't belabor a car purchase with such intensity. But I have a tough time replacing something if I don't need to and it causes me undue angst. That's what you get when you have Depression-Era grandparents and Italian/Catholic guilt as part of your DNA...

I kept thinking of people that have left this earth too soon, lovely people who embraced life and had a don't sweat the small stuff attitude. They are without a doubt people I would have hashed this out with, and they would have said: Can you afford a new car? Yes, I do ok and have few expenses and I save. Do the specs meet what you need out of a vehicle? Yes, they do. Do you have a magic life that you'll get to live more than once? Uhhh....no. Well that answers it. Yes, I based a major purchase on an imagined conversation. So for the past 2 weeks we've been getting to be friends. I took him to the fabric store, and tomorrow we're going to the book store and Target. He's very well acquainted with work already, so I need to broaden his horizons.

OK--now that I got all weird about it---can I just tell you I love this car? I want to take part in a heist like in The Italian Job. I want to get chased by the police just so I can outfox them and escape capture. But I also want to motor to the country and have a picnic while I'm wearing a red and white gingham dress and oversized sunglasses like Audrey Hepburn. This would all be much better if I drove a stick, but I don't so I have to pretend that one little bit when I'm tooling up the pike :)

So there. It's out. Now I don't feel like I'm keeping secrets. I know, I'm so silly, but I have post-migraine-brain right now and that brings it out in me. Here's a pic my sissy snapped the day I brought him home. Red polka dot shoes and everything :)

The birds love it too. Every morning they leave Sir Miles a present. No matter how hard I try they just plop all over it. I'm told it's good luck, so I'll just keep that in mind.

  8. That is an awesome car. There’s just something about Coopers that scream “instant classic” when you see them. And what a name to give it, haha! Fits its British roots, for sure! Enjoy the new car. It’s a sweet ride!

  9. It's not at all uncanny to have the Mini Coop as you're dream car. It's definitely an iconic piece. With its British charm and German engineering, the Mini Cooper is one stylish, affordable go-kart for adults.

  10. A lot of people also dream to own a Mini Cooper same as you did. I’m glad you already got your dream car. Congratulations! Anyway, have you watched the Italian Job movie? If you want to get amazed with how good Minis are, I highly recommend you watch it. :) Arlyne Nelms @ Spartan Toyota
