Was this anyone else's childhood?
I was the typical dweeb when I was younger. Braces, glasses (which I wouldn't wear, so I walked around rocking a sexy squint), super skinny, frizzy hair (which I didn't realize stemmed from me trying to control my curly hair which I didn't realize I had--ponytails restrict curling, doncha know). I also was (and still am) highly introverted. I was perfectly happy with books and crayons and stacks of paper. I loved filling different pencil holders with markers, colored pencils, pens with funky toppers--none to be used, you understand. They were purely decorative. And stickers!!! Why were they so fun to collect? I think I still have my albums in the attic. I would spend hours in my bedroom writing notes to my friends, drawing rainbows (I'm not much of an artist), and consuming books of the Judy Blume ilk. If Harry Potter existed then I may only have surfaced for dinner. My mother realized soon after this event that sending me to my room was not a punishment but a reward. I bet I'm not alone in that regard :)
